No need to miss it... the comment was that they are becoming extinct not that you can not sill find them in some places.

IMO it would be hard to say what bullet is the best for elk FOR YOU and YOUR RIFLE.
I will tell you to shoot the heaviest bullet that will give you 3 MOA accuracy out of your rifle. I will also say that if I were you I wouldn't shoot anything less than 250 gr.
Good luck

If we are going to restrict conversations to only those that have experience then it's going to be mighty quiet around here...

I would feel very confident going after elk with the Barnes I recommended based on how well my gun shoots it, what I have seen it done in the field and what I've heard of it doing from other hunters..
That is the point. If you get second hand or third hand info from people that have never even seen an elk what is that worth? If someone was looking for a bullet for a Mule Deer. Someone shooting large Northern whitetails would have some merit.

Someone shooting doe whitetails, and recommending an elk bullet is a wannabe. I don't want to hear regurgitated third hand info.
Real accuracy info does some good but accuracy is not the only info that is important. Bull Elk can be enormous. The light bullets that some guys shoot for deer are not the bullets that I would want.

Maybe I should go on a Africa forum and recommend bullets there. I could tell them I read about bullets and that gives me all the experience I need. I could also tell them since my 243 is an accurate rifle it would be great for buffalo. Ron

if you actually killed an elk with one. Second, third and forth hand recommendations are not in my opinion of any value. Ron

The ability to read, write and communicate is what puts us above other creatures...We are able to learn from their experiences...

Jim Shockey used the 300gr Barnes effectively for years, I'll take that as a pretty good recommendation...

The OP was looking for suggestions for his Knight, as I shoot a Knight and have sighted in several with that same bullet I know Knight's will group that bullet very well...As stated, if you can't kill an elk with 100grs of good powder and a 300gr Barnes, it won't be the bullet lacking but your shooting ability...
