MMP 54x50 sabot with any of these

50cal DC 300 or 325gr. The 325gr is the bullet Knight shipped with their 54cals.

50cal Hornady 300gr FTX. These expand best at higher velocity and shoot flatter than most 50cals.

458s might work in the Harvest 54x45 sabot made for .452s. They work in mine but do load tight.

im fairly new with muzzleloading so would you be able to explain what some of this means....like why would you want to use a sabot with a diameter of .458 to use in a .54 caliber gun.

Since you are a little bit new at the game... I would suggest you stay away from putting the wrong size bullet in an incorrect sabot to start with.

Nobody makes a sabot for a .458 bullet (a 45-70 rifle bullet) that is designed togo into a 54 cal gun. Often if you use and undersized sabot like Scott is suggesting a .451/.452 x 54 sabot loaded with a .458 bullet you can make it work in some guns.

Maybe down the road try the combination, but right now I would save yourself the expense of buying .458 bullets and possible not being able to use them.

I think you have a good selection of .452 and .500 bullets that you might make the choice from.

A few easy combos that you will not have to mix and match sabots / bullets. Once you get more familiar then its pretty easy to mix and match.

It will go down between the petals and spread them nore than designed. It will not sit in the bottom of the sabot until you put it in the barrel. then as you pust it down it will move down in the sabot a lilltle further but never reach the very bottom. Also the the powder cup on the bottom of the sabot will be to small for the 54 but when fired it will try to fill the bore and restrict the gas to below the cup.... It should hold the gas at the ogive of the bullet, but some is bound to leak.

A lot of people use and like Dead Center's - I just do not like an all lead bullet... There is a reason that hunters moved away from all lead bullet to copper lead bullets, then all copper, and now all brass. For the price of a Dead Center - i would buy a preimium bullet like the Barnes or the Bloodlines.

Might go over and look at this thread... there are a lot of different thoughts expressed there.

In both of my Remingtons I always shot MMP sabots - but i really like them. They tend to conform to the barrel better especially in very cold weather. Others like the Harvester and they are less expensive, and they do seem to work better in warmer temps, as they do not seem to effected by the heat like the softer MMP.
