Since you are a little bit new at the game... I would suggest you stay away from putting the wrong size bullet in an incorrect sabot to start with.

Nobody makes a sabot for a .458 bullet (a 45-70 rifle bullet) that is designed togo into a 54 cal gun. Often if you use and undersized sabot like Scott is suggesting a .451/.452 x 54 sabot loaded with a .458 bullet you can make it work in some guns.

Maybe down the road try the combination, but right now I would save yourself the expense of buying .458 bullets and possible not being able to use them.

I think you have a good selection of .452 and .500 bullets that you might make the choice from.
