It will go down between the petals and spread them nore than designed. It will not sit in the bottom of the sabot until you put it in the barrel. then as you pust it down it will move down in the sabot a lilltle further but never reach the very bottom. Also the the powder cup on the bottom of the sabot will be to small for the 54 but when fired it will try to fill the bore and restrict the gas to below the cup.... It should hold the gas at the ogive of the bullet, but some is bound to leak.

A lot of people use and like Dead Center's - I just do not like an all lead bullet... There is a reason that hunters moved away from all lead bullet to copper lead bullets, then all copper, and now all brass. For the price of a Dead Center - i would buy a preimium bullet like the Barnes or the Bloodlines.
