Bullets

Mark,
I' ve got a brass bullet pusher/guide that is just a hair under .500" that slip fits down the bore. I don' t know who makes it, but it has a cone-shaped inside taper that is designed to center the bullet in the sabot and bore. It fits the QT' s spitzer shape very well and also works well for most jacketed pistol bullets, but the ID is too small to fit the KN or a FP conical like the Great Plains bullets. What would be nice for the PR KN bullets would be a slightly under bore diameter flat faced tip that would apply even pressure to the nose of the KN or flat point without bein able to slip off and marr the bullet. I' ll check the local stores for the Barnes tip you mentioned, as I would like to try out the 300gr .45 KN sabots for hunting. Most of the hunting I do is in the timber where trees and brush limit shots to <100 yards anyway and the KN' s look like they' d turn a deer inside-out. I haven' t used them because I' ve never been able to load them without damaging them ruining the accuracy.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Mike

Here' s the spec that I was using last season. 100 grains of pyrodex pellets with a 295 gr. powerbelt out of a .50 caliber. Thanks for the help. I don' t know what bullet I' m going to decide on yet. The QT bullets look and sound awesome but I don' t wanna buy 50 of them. I' m looking for more like 10 or 20.

03, why stop at 150yds? lol. 50cal/180gn Knight Red Hots (Barnes) are THE ticket for smokin em " out yonder" ... Take two pellets of Pyrodex (REALLY interested in the 777 pellets as well!) and then call the processor!
Good luck,
RA
ps
I smoked a doe at 130yds (lasered) last season with the 200Red Hots and the only direction she went was STRAIGHT down. Even filmed the shot myself with a tripod in the stand with me. Inside of 200 yds my lil Knight is as deadly as anyother of my rifles. I' m gonna go to a 45cal Omega... 150gns of 777pellets behind 150grain RedHots and its an INSTANT 300yd muzzleloader. Daniel Boone eat your heart out!!!

Last you I used powerbelt but didn' t get the best accuracy with them. I don' t know if it was the bullet or the shooter than was causing the problem. I' m looking for something that is extremely accurate and can take a down a deer at 150 yds.

Red if you get the 45 omega and it shoots like my encore 45 does Ole Danel is going to be laughing at you.
No pun intended but I have been trying to get my encore for 2 yrs to shoot, spent all day at the range yesterday using pyro and t-7 with 180,195 and 200 gr bullets and still didn' t get any kind of group at 100.The other day I shot a 1 in gr,using 115 grs of pyro but yesterday it wouldn' t do it again. One the other hand my 50 cal barrel will shot less than 1in using pyro and t-7 and it has the same twist barrel.

i agree with eldeguello......tone your loads down a bit......you dont need alot to take down a deer.......sure you give some power and velocity but you will beable to shoot better because you dont flinch....thats one of the great things about muzzleloading.....you make your own loads every time...make them to fit you and your needs.....load a little lighter to take out some recoil so you dont jump so much.....i dont know much about muzzleloading so i cnat help you there.....but i do know about shooting and recoil can be your own worst enemy......if your afraid of the gun youll never beable to shoot it to its full potential........id say shoot lighter charges and maybe a little lighter bullet and see if you can shoot......if the shooter cant shoot the guns useless in their hands.....but its a common problem and easily fixed......good luck

I have had good success with the 475 grain buffalo bullets using 90 grains of pyrodex. They are pretty hard to find in my area though. I am basically an amateur when it comes to muzzleloading, but I have played around with many different guns and types of ammo, as well as different charges. My first and so far only muzzleloader kill was a 200 pound eight pointer. The gun was CVA' s cheapest model (forget the name exactly) that I bought at Wal-Mart the night before the hunt. Took one shot to see how it was sighted and I hit the mark dead-on at about 25 yards. The next bullet was sent through the vitals of that nice buck. I can' t seem to make consistent shots with round balls but the buffalo bullets treat me well!
