I have tried several load combos but still keep going back to Hornady 240 Gr XTPs with 100 Gr of Prodex Pellets out of my Rem 700 MLS 50 Cal. I have taken 8 head with this load and setup been for the most part pleased with the results on game & accuracy extremely pleased.

First off, I do not shoot in-lines. All I have are sidelocks. I never seemed to need more then that, I would never have to shoot more then 100 yards and would not want to, and I hit everything I shoot at and it goes down. My average shots are under 80 yards and closer to 35 to 50 on average.
In my .50 caliber Hawkins with a 1-66 twist, a .490 Speer roundball, a .015 cotton pillow tick patch I cut, lubed with water soluable oil, all on top of 70 grains of Pyrodex Select
In my T/C .54 caliber Renegade I have two loads. A .530 round ball with a .015 patch on top of 80 grains of Pyrodex Select is the main hunting load. I also make my own 300 grain LEE conicals out of pure lead. I drop 90 grains of Pyrodex Select down the barrel, a .54 caliber wonder wad, and then the conical and I think I am good to go after anything I would confront.
My .54 caliber will also shoot the .426 grain HP Buffalo Bullets extremely well with up to 100 grains of Pyrodex. The recoil lets you know what your shooting. I stopped shooting them at deer because one young buck that comes to mind many years ago, was almost half ruined when I made a front shoulder shot and that thing opened up on the shoulder blade and then went through the animal.
I have no idea what the speed of those charges are or the foot pounds, etc. But I do know that there is no whitetail deer that can take a load from them in the right spot and get away.
Good shooting and be safe. Hope your rifle and you find the right load.
