I have a really nice Renegade I was thinking about selling. But I have read a good bit about the Green Mountain LRH barrel with the 1in28" twist. This barrel should do a good job with conicals. I am assuming it shoud shoot well out to 200 yards with proper sights. I have a set of the original TC vernier tang sights.

Now to my questions. Green Mountain says the barrel comes ready to drop in. However when I look at their pictures all the barrels appear to be in the white?? Do the barrels come blued or not?? Or are they SS barrels that are suppose to come in the white??

Also it appears that the front sight is dovetailed into the barrel. So I am assuming the front sight can be removed and replaced?? Is that correct?? Thanks, Tom.

Are you sure you're looking at the right page HEAD?

The GM replacement barrels for Hawkens and Renegades are blued. They come with front and rear sights and ramrods. The front sights are dovetailed and the rear sights are screwed with the same spacing as TC sights. There's also a tapped hole on the top of the breech plug (with a filler screw) for mounting a scope base using the rear sight screw holes and the breech plug hole. All of the ones I have dropped in just fine with the exception that I had to trim about 1/8" off the rear of the under rib on every one to clear the front of the stock, and file the top of the hook on one very slightly to get it to lay flat in the barrel channel.

They also made some in stainless. But I don't know if they still do that.

I see what you mean, but when looking down the page it appears the 1" 1in28 is in the white?? But the picture at the top shows in the blue?? Sorry for my ignorance, and I know I can just call Green Mountain. But I was just curius from the guys who have bought them. And what they thought about them. Thanks, Tom.

And while we are at it. What would you guys consider a max. load for this barrel with a 500 grain conical, and shooting 3F Black?? 100 grains?? Tom.

Here's a good tutorial.

The barrels come in 15/16th and 1 inch on the flats depending on what you buy. The Renegades are 1 inch on the flats. The T/C Hawkins .50 is 15/16th and their .54 is 1 inch on the flats.

They come in blued and stainless. And the front site is dovetailed. Also the rear sight comes off and leaves two screws for a base platform.

The max load is 110 according to them. That is more then enough power for anything you want to hunt. They are excellent sabot shooters and mine shoots a 460 grain Bull Shop in .503 real well also. I use 80 grains is all.

when you go to there page click on replacement barrels, then to long range hunter barrels. you can get a 45,50 or a .54 with the 1" flats,they come with williams sights.i also have a .54 and in the spring i am going to buy a new barrel for it..the barrels you were looking at are blanks.midway usa also sales these barrels and they are cheaper on there site.hope this helps!

Tom, I have three of these barrels - I think - One of them is stainless and two of them are blued. All three of them are 15/16 and all three of them are in my Renegade stocks. I had one 1" barrel at one time time but the weight difference between to the two sizes was significant - I traded the 1" for a 15/16 and prefer packing it all around much better. There is not difference in their ability to shoot straight.

My renegade has the 1" flats, so i can buy a 15/16 barrel to replace it with no issues?i wanted a .50 but have seriously been considering a 45!
