It is Shotgun only so I have an advantage with my Muzzy I also have a Class A disabled permit so I can shoot bucks also. I purchased an extra doe tag. The young man who is helping me is a down and out Iraq vet so I will give him the meat and pay him. I will also hunt were he can and loan him a gum. I do what I can.

John ... like Woodtick said, that is a really wonderful thing your doing to help that man. I wish both of you the best of luck..

I agree that the muzzleloader will be an advantage. Although I have a friend that hunts Dane Country. He purchased a couple years back, a Remington Shotgun with a expensive rifled slug barrel for it. And he mounted a 4x40mm scope on it. You would not believe the groups he shoots with these EXPENSIVE slugs he shoots. I was amazed when he was showing me the gun and the targets he has shot. He claimed his doe last year was over 90 yards walking when he blasted her.

I have an 870 with a 5 inch rifled choke tube I cast my own slugs with a lee mould and load in aa wads. It shoots real well to 75 yds.

It is hard to beat a shotgun slug for bringing down a deer. I first started out hunting with a shotgun. I was living in Madison at the time which is in a shotgun county. My first shotgun deer came through ( a small buck) and I had a High Standard Supermatic Deluxe 12 gauge (still own it too). It was packed with 5 slugs. As that thing went by me I opened up on it with all five slugs. Needless to say, the first one would have done the trick. But I was a little excited back in them days.

It was a little after that I met a person that got me into muzzle loaders. I never hunted with a shotgun after that.
