It is hard to beat a shotgun slug for bringing down a deer. I first started out hunting with a shotgun. I was living in Madison at the time which is in a shotgun county. My first shotgun deer came through ( a small buck) and I had a High Standard Supermatic Deluxe 12 gauge (still own it too). It was packed with 5 slugs. As that thing went by me I opened up on it with all five slugs. Needless to say, the first one would have done the trick. But I was a little excited back in them days.

It was a little after that I met a person that got me into muzzle loaders. I never hunted with a shotgun after that.
