It depends on what rifle I am shooting. BUT for the most part, 120 grains is the max and I don't like that much powder. 110 grains is a good strong load with up to a 300 grain bullet.

Actually 110 grBH with a 250 gr Gold Dot is avery good deer load for normal ranges and it shoots quite well in all my guns with the Harvester 300+ sabot I took a couple deer with that load last year and several before that.
I like to see what max loads will do with some bullets, but for hunting the construction of the bullet often limits just how fast I will push it. When I was shootingXTP's I did not go over 100 gr,with the 250 Gold Dot I started up the powder ladder with it and it shoot an inch or better in all my inlines so after the first couple of bang flops I never considered changing the load, its my in the woods load and I rarely have to shoot over 50 yds but the way it shoots more distance would not be hard to deal with. I checked the sighting and group for the 300gr but don't use it much in AR except for elk.
I am wondering what some of the other people use for there best load with BH. Lee

Most bullets are in the 80-100g range.I shoot 200g XTPs with 110g.I don't really get above that because I don't think I've killed a deer at more than 80 yards in 10 years... You just can't see that far here.

I bought a bottle and didn't get impressed. I had to swab after a few shots and it was harder to clean then any BP or sub.I ever worked with.
I hunt here in Va. and my average shots are in the range of 75 yards. I shoot an inline (Knight Vision & NEF Sidekick) and I have never had to shoot more then 85 grs. of powder ( Pyrodex,Pinnacle, or 777) and either the 300 gr. XTP or Shockwave. They have harvested deer every year that I have been hunting ML season (10yrs.).
I must admit though that I have recently been lured to the primative side of ML season. This year I few friends and I will go on a FL only hunt this season. It is something that we talked about and find interesting. That will be after we fill our freezers first!!!
Oh yeah, I gave the rest of that BH209 powder to my friend. He didn't care for it either!
The price doesn't help any, $40.00 here in the local Bass Pro Shop.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
It was the soldier than and it's the soldier now!
My go to load in the .50 PH is 110gr pushing a 275gr Parker BE. I have tried 115gr in the .45 shooting Lehighs but that is the most I have loaded and I doubt I would need to go over that amount.

I had the kind of luck with 777 as you did with BH, I am sure there are some other things than the powder that causes these kind of problems, I worked a bit with 777 trying to find out what it was that caused it and came to the conclusion that it was a chemical reaction to something I was using. Since they came out with BH and it solved all those problems for me I never followed through on it.
have you tried the new Black Mag XP? I want to get some but have not been able to yet. If what I have heard and the advertising is correct it should work well even in the flint locks. Black Powder is very difficult for me to obtain here. Lee
