From what I have seen, it's not very good. Rifles that are still in the store and rusting and haven't been exposed to the weather at all. Not good.

I only have one gun with weathershield, a Triumph, and it seems to be OK. I have hunted in rain and snow with it, but I always clean my gun after every shoot or trip , so it probably wouldn't matter if it didn't have the weathershield. As far as guns sitting in the store and rusting ,if that is the case, I would guess they are handled by potential customers. Sweaty hands, salts ,etc from the skin are the biggest cause of external rust.I'm sure guns being shown in the store aren't even wiped down after being handled.I think any protection is better than none at all, even it it isn't all that the claims make it out to be.

You know i really do not know for sure about the quality of the 'weathershield'... my thoughts are TC offers a lifetime warranty and i would not expect then to invest in a process that is going to cost them a lot of money over the long haul. I have to believe they did their homework on the product and there is a belief on their part that it works.

The other thing I think about is blueing is nothing more than rusting you barrel or reciever blue - In fact often when you clean and wipe a new gun with a quality oil you will get a rusty patch. When I blue guns here I get rusty patches for several weeks after a blue job.

I think a thing you might do, would be to call TC and ask them what the process is and what they think is the best process for maintaining it? Heck the call is free - actually you might do us all a favor if you got that information then told us about it.

I have one a, Weathershield barrel and reciever but I have not had it long enough to provide correct information...

Any one that has been in the gun business will tell that plating can be the beginning of a lot of problems, I have seen a brand new Triumph in the local sports store with corrosion coming up through the plating. I was actually there to buy a back up Triumph for some hunting trips, I ended up using my Omega for back up .
I reguard this Weathersheild as the one bigmistake other than messing up the customer service that has been made at TC of course its really S&W now. Lee

Judging by the posts I've read, there's nothing at all wrong with TC's customer service. Other than a few whiners thatwere ass-hurt because they had to leave a message once.

The weathershield is a great idea if it works. I sent back one of my weathershield guns and they replaced the barrel. No big deal, they took care of it. At that time, mine was the first supposidly.

Stainless still will rust, just not as fast. T/C laid off alot of people recently. That might be why the phones arent getting answered quickly.

SWThomas
When you lay off half the people in any departmentyou double the work load of the rest. I also realize the people there are trying, but I believe that the idea of cutting the department down like that shows what the new supervision is about. Some of us have sat on hold for a long time to get a simple part. Lee
