buddy of mine said he shoots a cap off before loading his t7 pellets and sabot and he doesn't have a problem with a crud ring. anybody else hear of this?
It never hurts to try. I don't get a crud ring regardless if I shoot a cap before or not. (Thought normally I do) I agree with what some have said, I think it's the products used on the bore or the application of said products.

what does shooting a cap off first do, or what is it supposed to do? prime the barrel?

It fouls the barrel,it is done to prevent the first shot from being a flyer.

I always pop off a cap before shooting. It gets any excess moisture out of the flash hole. If I use pellets or loose powder, I get a crud ring no matter what. Not so with BH209.

didn't notice any difference with the Winchester 777 primers-that is when I could get the damn things to work. Couldn't pull the hammer back most of the time with the 777 primers. So after this what are the best primers for the Encore? Been using Winchester W209 primers before and haven't really had a problem.

Im pretty new to BP but I use the Federal standard shotgun shell primers. It seems that every time the T/C Encore is mentioned it goes hand in hand with the Omega. I have an Omega so I am assuming that the Federals should work fine in your Encore.
