There is a tolerance on threads and threaded holes, if you drill and thread your own and make the slightly under size and degrease them well you really don't need it but its like insurance if you don't us it you just might wish you had. Always use the blue myself because if you use the red you may have to heat it if you ever want to get it apart. Lee

After a shooting session or a day of Hunting, and the gun has been fired, I clean it. And as the Scope has to come off the Bases (I use bases and rings that return the Scope to Zero) I ALWAYS CHECK THE SCREWS TO MAKE SURE THERE SNUG. As long as you check em your good. Usually if they do come loose it's after a (First-Time) mounting of a Scope as they wer'nt as tight as they should have been, so always check them after mounting a Scope for the first time. BP
