Some day they will put towers in my area and I can go wireless internet. Where I live, cell phones don't work. I was given a trac phone by concerned friends. And it actually will call the sheriff's department and hospital, etc.. My brother's cell phone will not. But he explained it has to do with who your subscriber is, etc.. So at least if I fall off the roof, trip on the ice, or who knows... I can call for help maybe....

For years on our 900 acre hunting lease we had to leave the camp area and go to a boundary roadabout 300 yards East to make a cell call. We didn't get reception anywhere on the lease.

Then, three years ago they put a new tower in the area and now we can call each other on our cells from anywhere on the lease. It's a real nice safety feature which we fortunately haven't had to use for any real emergency. All of our calls have been "was that you that shot" or "are you seeing anything" or "hey, I stuck my truck and need a pull" or (the best one) "come help me drag this deer".

i guess i am lucky in my area.

i have COMCAST for everything.

i get high speed internet, free phone calls anywhere,800 channels with HD .phone service has call waiting and 3 party and records for you etc.

if problem happens ,usually the repairman is there same day or next day.

i have 2 digital boxes,1 for living room and 1 for bedroom.

you can get 90 channels with no boxes for 55 dollars.

my bill is 129 with tax each month.

for 1 box its around 115 dollars with all of above.

before i was paying 55 for 90 channels.

22 for verizon local only.

every call was 10 cents a minute for long distance.

12 dollars for DIAL UP .

SO, THAT WAS AROUND 90 DOLLARS A MONTH.

NOW I GET ALL OF ABOVE FOR AROUND 40 DOLLARS A MONTH MORE.

but these companies keep raising prices, its awful.

dollar here a dollar there.[:@]

We are on dial up here. It is att, cost $16.00 a month, has what is called accelarater, useing propel soft wear. Right now it says the speed is 40.0kbps, bytes sent 1,028,150 and climbing, bytes recieved 4,595953 , compresstion sent 14%, recieved 4%.

Seems quite fast to me but I don't mess around on peoples computer with dsl or cable. So far the only prooblem I have with this site is e mail notices of replys has been lacking.
We use cal wave to answer the phone while we are connected to the internet. It gives a notice of who is calling and the option of taking the call. Since the take the call option cost a extra $2.00 each time we just go off the net and call them back or call with the cell phone even though it is for bussness use and emergency only.
Att gives a 20% discount to AARP members on the cell phone contract.

We still have to use smoke signals for our local land line phone, Att stops local service a 1/2 mile down the road. Still the smoke signals works most of the time just would be cheaper for us to bundle the local, long distance and cell phones.

my friend told me near his family property in the sticks they put a cell tower up and the woman gets a couple grand a month rental to have it on her property.maybe an idea for you $$$? also i switched to the free version firefox 2.0 web browser years ago. my computer is 11 years old and runs fast using the firefox browser. firefox weeds out all the extra pop ups and adds crap running in the back. also i believe you can shut down some features on this site to make it load faster too.i think its on your system preferances page.

by reducing your security features or cookies from high to medium ,or medium to low, things will speed up.

but, it leaves your protection lower.
