Lyman great plains
Anybody here use a Lyman Great Plains rifle in 54cal with the 1:60 twist? what kind of accuracy do you get with the prb? if something on it breaks are parts easy to find like they are with the t/c hawken and renegades?

The GPR is a good rifle. And accuracy with the PRB is very good. You just need to find which patch/powder combo works the best out of your particular rifle. And as for parts, yes, they are readily available. But honestly, with proper care and maintanence, its pretty tough to break anything on a Lyman sidelock. It happens - but rarely.
It appears from you post that you either got a new one, a used oneor are planning on getting one. Good luck with it. I would start out with .015" patches and 80 gr of FFg under the ball. And if you can find them, you can even try some 54 cal felt wads between the powder and PRB.

I have 2 Lyman 54 cal. rifles. one in the 1:60 twist and also the GPH with the 1:32 twist. With the Lyman GPR 1:60 . I get the best accuracy with a 530 hornady ball and .018 patch and 90 gr triple 777. With the GPH i get the best accuracy with a 425 gr, Hornady HBHP great plains conical ,100 gr. 777 . I feel the Lyman Great Plains rifle is the best percussuin cap out there for the price. Parts are easy to find but I have never needed any in the 25+ years since I got my first Lyman
