Default new grouse load

Out deer hunting here in the soaking wet side of Washington the other day. Got skunked on the deer hunting, but happened upon a grouse walking across a gravel road. After my friend assured me that it was still grouse season, I took a kneeling 30 yd shot. Didn't get the head, but went through the upper backbone, killed it and cleaned it in one swift move. scraped what was left of the innards out of it and the breasts were left unscratched. Its in the freezer now.

A/H 420, 100 grns 777, and a no excuses 460 grn. Worked like a charm. Now if I can just find the deer.
Happy day to you all.

Got lucky making a clean kill on a grouse with that load. If you'd missed your spot by even a little, he could have charged you.

That gives new meaning to the term "use enough gun" Redneck.

When I was a very young and foolish kid, I was deer hunting with the old man and carried a shotgun. I always carried a couple bird shot shells for grouse. I had one land in the tree above my head. I decided to change over to birdshot, and I thought I took the 12 gauge slug out of the shotgun and put in a birdshot. When I fired it rains grouse all over me... What a mess.
