I've had no problems killing deer from 5 yards to 100 yards sighted in at 100...
And yes you can be very precise with a ML, but it takes a little more effort than most folks are willing to part with......

I have chonographed that load but in a different gun than you have, it averaged 1780 fps. I would say that Chaps data he posted is more than close enough. It appears that his data is based on close to sea level, at higher elevations it will be just a bit flatter shooting. Should be a good load for deer. Good luck with it.

Many hunters use the 3" over method under this theory. A deer's chest cavity is say 12", and if your 3" off from dead center of the chest cavity you still hit the chest cavity. So they sight their rifles in 3" high at 100 and it will shoot dead on for the chest cavity from 0 to 175 approximately. This 3" over method leads to the concept of MPBR, which is the range that you can shoot and be dead on for the chest cavity. I calculated the MPBR of Hunter90899 in a post above. I tend to like holding on hair as rule..............

Most of my muzzleloader hunting is 100or 150yards or less, andusually in the deep snow via white camo and nose into the wind.....deer get stoopid in the deep snow. Often things are up close and personal......
Occasionally though, I get a shot that is a long way off, with time to decide a shot or not. Glass, laser, clickin' comeups, all fall into place....and if there is a still a shot I take it. 250 is my cut off and that has to be a perfect scenario on many levels.
Proven systems tend to not fail within the confines of diligent boundaries.............

Your holding on hair with 3" over method, you center of chest right behind front shoulder. You never 3" ove back or anything like that. If you shoot at 75 your about 3.6" high (with his load) and at 100 your 3.5" high and at 150 your dead on. At 50 yards your 2.6" high, you still hitting in the top part of the lung area. MPBR is 175 with this method and your basically shooting thru a 6" pipe from 0 to 175 yards. I think it is a good method. Since if deer are 150 you just aim and shoot.

I would leave your setup aloneas that is great shooting at 100yds. I start my shooting at 25 yds then move to 50 then 100yds and keep shooting and adjusting as every gun is different. You are certainly in the ballpark.
