I've had no problems killing deer from 5 yards to 100 yards sighted in at 100...
And yes you can be very precise with a ML, but it takes a little more effort than most folks are willing to part with......
Many hunters use the 3" over method under this theory. A deer's chest cavity is say 12", and if your 3" off from dead center of the chest cavity you still hit the chest cavity. So they sight their rifles in 3" high at 100 and it will shoot dead on for the chest cavity from 0 to 175 approximately. This 3" over method leads to the concept of MPBR, which is the range that you can shoot and be dead on for the chest cavity. I calculated the MPBR of Hunter90899 in a post above.
