VIDEO - CMMG's AR Muzzle Loading Upper
#1
A manufacturing company named CMMG has developed a muzzle loading upper for the AR rifle with a 20 inch barrel. Ignition is achieved by a primed 5.56 (.223) case that's been adapted to take a #209 primer.

The case is loaded through the magazine to shoot and is manually ejected afterward for the next shot.
Everything is nitro coated to be corrosion proof.
The video shows the rifle beingloaded and fired with 150 grains of Pyrodex pellets and a Powerbelt bullet.
Now the unit will undergo molecular particle testing for barrel integrity.

I can say with the highest degree of certainty that I will never own one. If someone gave me one, I would trade it for 40 lbs. of lead.

It may not be as tough to clean as you think. There is a company doing Remington 700 conversions that uses cut off 6mm cases for ignition. The idea being that you don't have to clean much behind the breech plug. I like muzzleloaders because I can tinker with them and they force me to be patient. I like ARs because there's something cool about going through 90 rounds of rifle ammo on one stage of competition. I'm not sure I could get behind a single shot AR though.

I think a 700BDL chambered to take a 45:70 [so you can use a large rifle nag primer]and muzzle loaded with sabots would be more interesting. The problem with that is that a lot of states including AR where I live have a law that ifyou can put a cartridge in it it is not a muzzle loader. Now the warden says that cartridge case don't have to have a bullet in it to beillegal.

Lemoyne, do a search for Precision Rifle. They convert bolt guns to use a large rifle primer in the cut down 6mm case. Of course it would still be illegal in your state, which begs the question, what of the 25acp conversions using a small rifle primer in an Encore. Nothing changed except the primer. If I wanted to hunt with such a rifle, I'd have no problem doing so in the regular rifle season.
