Scope and Sighting In Questions

RE: Scope and Sighting In Questions
I remove the barrels from the stocks all the time. I also have my scopes with Warne QD rings. I take the scopes off and the barrel off. When I put it all back together there is not that much difference in the POI. I think that if you have a good rifle, with a solid stock, good bases and quality mounts, then there is not such a large impact to pull it all apart.

Johnmorris, food for thought. When most good gun smiths set up a gun they blue locktight the screws in the bases, put the bottom half of the rings on slide them all the way forward and tighten them down [this is the direction that recoil will try to move them in] do it with both ring bases then set the scope on as you want it and put on the top of the rings. When you have taken the scope off for cleaning and are putting it back on slide it forward till all the slop is out and tighten the rings on the base exactly the same amount that they were to start with. It should hold its POI if this is done right and not just be close. Lee

Chris, yes - my first KRB barrel has four different diameters as from muzzle to breechplug. Second one seems much better and is a bit larger bore overall.
Lee, with my Warnes I push the front ring forward and the rear ring back in their respective slots. Makes it a little bit trickier to get them back on but that method seems to work just fine for me.
