Default xtp performance

got a good shot saturday at a big doe(my last doe for the season) she came right up to my shooting house trying to bust me and as she turned to run i busted her. it was a 25 yard pass through shot pushed by a 140 gr load of t7, the bullet was a xtp 45 cal .451 230gr hp. i tried to get in behind the shoulder but hit the shoulder dead on as she moved. itmade a fist sized hole through the ribs on entry and just alittle smaller coming out. i an't skined her yet so i will take a picture of the wound when i do. check back later today for the picture.

Well congratulations on the deer. It sounds like you have a big wound channel. I am guessing that the XTP really expanded or fragmented even. I will be looking forward to the pictures and later details...

little-d, Congratulations on the deer. I have used a similar load in my System One for many years and it has worked well for me. [it likes 150 RS and a 230 XTP with a musket cap]

heres thehole coming throughthe ribs, the hole going into the deers shoulderis about the size of a nickel then it hit shoulder bone then ribs took out heart and most of the lungs then made a 2 in. hole in the other side of the ribs and splatered the other shoulder and still made a nickel size hole when it left. just think what them big mini balls did when they hit ribs during the war. one of my buddys got a good boar hog this morning about 175#, he hit it almost center ways missed heart and most of the lungs. the shot was about 60 yards with my 50cal white mountain carbine. he was using some big maxi balls i poured up and 100gr. of t7 he said it ran about 30feet and piled up in a ditch he said it cleaned out a spot where it hit the ground before it died. the bullet stayed in it so i hope to get it back for a picture.
