Got a Remington 700ML wanted T/C Trumph
Well Igot what I could afford and it was an early Remington 700ML in excellent conditionwith 209 primer. Now I need to know what will group well in this ML. I will be shooting less than 100yd. Any help from past or present Rem 700 ml users would beappreciated.

A friend has one and he gets good results from the 250 to 300 grain Barnes MZ bullets over 90 to 100 grains of Pyrodex. The best way to find out is to go out and do some testing with different bullets and powders. This accomplishes 2 important things, finds a load your gun likes and gives you experience and practice with your new gun. Good luck with it and enjoy the process.

The one I had liked PRBullet Ultimate 1 spitzer hollowpoint conicals over 90 to 100 grains (volume) of Pyrodex P.Shot into about 1.5" at 100 yards with that load. You knew you had pulled the trigger but it wasn't torture.

Sounds like I have some good info to get me started I will head out the first of the week to start buying some things to try? I missed my second buck this seasontoday with my crossbow they are hearing it come on a 30 to 35 yard shot. So I need to get something to quite it down anyway. They were moving good today also!

Tickles me how all the anti-crossbow fanatics claim crossbows are a 100 yard weapon. I've been crossbow hunting for several years and have a crossbow I can consistantly shoot better groups than with most of my muzzleloaders at 50 yards. My MAXIMUM range on a deer shot is 30 yards, and I prefer them even closer (like 10 yards or less). I've watched a buck at 31 yards drop 5 or 6" by the time an arrow traveling 260 fps got there. My crossbow gets around 300 fps, and I still like to keep shots well under 30 yards.
BTW - forget trying toquiet a crossbow, get close, real close, and make the twangggggg of the string the last sound he hears.
If the noise bothers you - get a good set of ear plugs.

That sounds like good advice on crossbow hunting. I have always been a gun hunter and now I have time I have picked up M/L and crossbow hunting and have a lot to learn.

I have two Remington 700 ML's. One a 54 cal likes 100gr. triple 7 and 300gr. 50 ca.lSpeer Gold Dots in a MMP purple sabot.
The other a 50cal Likes 80 gr. Triple 7 with a 45 cal 230gr HP XTP Hornaday bullet in the green MMP sabots.
I feel the Remington is an exelant inline ML. Yes takes a bit more to clean them than some of the newer models but if you like guns it isn't a chore.
I recommend you get a bolt take down tool as the bolt is the biggest trouble in cleaning this rifle and a MUST for good operation.
I paid $10.00 for the tool, a jar of solvent, a brass brush and a wipeing cloth at Gander Mountian.
Most of the Remingtons I have seen will shoot just about any thing you stuff down the bore very well.
One other thing, both of mine will group two shots with out wipeing between shots. Both shot all over the place with the 3d shot and all others till the bore is wiped out.

Absolute in all 3 of the 700'sI have owned was .44 240gr Hornady XTP/Green sabot under 90 gr FFG 777 or 100gr Pyrodex. Though like alleyyooper mentioned they all seemed to shoot near anything you stuffed down the bore with a 90-100gr charge underneath. In the 700's I owned with 209 ignition (aftermarket 209 (cabela's) not rem factory) shot the best with Winchester 209W primers.
BTW myremaining700ML is setup to shoot 250barnes expanders with supplied sabot under 90gr FFG 777/209W primer for my whitetail needs where shots over 100 are not required. The load isn't quite as accurate as the 240XTP's but still good enough for me averaging 1.5" at 100 and I think is a better bullet if I have to take a shoulder shot at close range.
I also found my groups suffered without swapping after a couple shots. On the range when working on groups/loads i swapped between each shot, then would test followups to see what to expect in the field if a unswabbed follow up was required.
I would suggest you pick up the tool pictured above, as the bolt needs tobe taken apart and cleaned thoroughly. While it can be done without it, life is much easier with the little green tool!
Best of luck and enjoy.

I have two of the Rem 700's and they still remain amoung my most favorite ML's. And I do have a few to choose from, but I still would not part with them.
They do have a couple of gliches that you need to work through, 1-cleaning the bolt 2- A weak firing pin spring, that is easily replaced. 3- the Remington factory 209 ignition system.
There are a few people that complian about theWalker trigger, I happen to like mine they are fully adjustable and they are easily adjustable.
The barrels are excellent Douglas barrels, mine both happen to be SS.
MyRemingtons will shoot just bout anything Iput down them, other than I have never shot conicals from either barrel.
My favorite loads are:
Elk....458/300 grain Nosler Partition Protected Point
( a .451/300 grain Nosler Partion Hollow Point is a good sub)
MMP HPH-.457/458-50 Orange Sabot
110 grains T7-2f
Cablela's 209 conversion shooting Remington 209-4 primers
White Tail.... .451/260 grain Nosler Partition HP
MMP HPH-24 .451/.452 Black Sabot
110 grains T7-2f
Rem 209-4
Poorman's Version of both loads and seem to be a very viable replacement:
.452/300 grain Speer Bonded Gold Dot and the .452/250 grain Speer Bonded Gold Dot
These two Remington's just shoot!
