No the crosshairs shouldn't be off changeing the power, only the blistic dot, circles or dashes change when changeing the power setting.
If you have a omega on your muzzleloader or 270 use a big piece of cardboar or paper shoot a shot at 200 yds, aiming at a small dot,the bullet should hit lower (should be dead on at 100 to start )with your rifle in a rest take and turn the power ring and see which circle is on or closest to the bullet hole, that should tell you what power to be on useing the circles with the load and bullet you are useing.
This way I don't think is for everyone just showing how you can make the scope do more than the factory load that it was designed to do.
Some just set their crosshairs a couple inches high at 100 yds which makes them on or a tad high at 200 and a little under at 300,myself if I am useing a scope without the mildot or blistic dots I zero dead on at 100,knowing that my bullet is going to be about 2 to 3 inches lowat 200,at 300 I use the top of the bottom post and over 300 I adjust the turret.
Still with any way you choose to shoot you need to practice to see what your rifle does at different ranges(yds)

I put one on my Omega and shoot itwith the specified load/bullet;I love it, especially the eye relief. Anybody had luck finding a scope cover for the eye piece. I have a Butler Creek Flip Open on the Objective lens but the eye side doesn't fit right.
