Yes, I do. I know the manufactures limits on "propellants" for my CVA Wolf.

My base question now does not involve my rifle or it's specifications. What I want to know is this. Regarding 777 FFG......is loose powder and pellets equivalent to each other in grains? Does 90gr of loose 777 FFG powder equal 90gr of 777 FFG pellets. 100=100 etc.

i would say that loose powder would be the best. The pellets cut down some time on loading but have u ever noticed any powder that had fallen away from the pellet and sits at the bottom on the box? Measuring by hand with loose powder IMO is be the most accurate way. The point of pellets was to mainly double charge for a product and get half that shots than you would with loose powder. They say it burns cleaner but who knows. They make up so much BS to sell something lol.

when talking Triple Se7en... if you were shooting 100 grains of Triple Se7en pellets, then to get the same kind of performance you would need 85 grains of loose Triple Se7en 2f powder. There is a 15% difference between the two in power.

Now that is what I was looking for, thanks cayugad. So, since CVA "rates" the max load for loose FFG powder at 100gr, that would be the equivalent to 115gr of pellets.

Used to use heavy loads in my muzzleloaders myself. i never used anything under 130 grains of Pyrodex. Like to shoot muzzleloaders a lot. It screwed me up and got me into flinching so that my accuracy with cartridge rifles went all to heck.

Then something good happened to me. i have an old Staghorn with limits of 100 grains of Pyrodex. Shot a field dressed hog of over 350 pounds square through both shoulders with 100 grains of Pyrodex and a 250 grain SST bullet.That bullet went through16 to 19inches of bone, gristle and meat. Those heavy loads of powder are not needed for hogs or deer at 125 yards or less.Very long shots and shots at elk, moose and bear are another matter.

Heavy loads often cause those pistol bullets used in sabots to blow up and fail to penetrate game-if that is what you are after.Go to Hornady.com and look at the expansion specs for some of their XTP bullets.

I shoot 120grs. 777 in my prohunter,but it is setup for overall performance. That is,from 50yds-to-250yds. On the long shots you need all the power you can get. It shoots great with a shock wave,and 100grs.777,but it really starts to fall apart past 160yds. So if you are limmited to shooting 150yds. or less,100grs,will take out anything in the woods. You just need the extra push to get the 200-250 performance.
