Also............loose powder gives you almost infinite ability to customize your load, pellet combinations limit you to no less than 10gr changes.
And pellets are about twice as expensive to shoot. The money saved on 1 can of powder vs. a box of pellets will pay for the speedloaders one can use to improve his reloading time with the loose. And the money saved on any subsequent cans of powder will buy more lead, scopes, or even a dozen flowers to calm down the Mrs because you've been spending too much time at the range.
And pellets working better in in-lines is a wives tale - my Knight didn't want to hit the broadside of a barn until I switched to loose.
"Every moving thing that liveth, I give unto you as meat" (Gen 9:3)
Trust God..........but keep your powder dry!

RE: Powder - pellets or loose?
Besides the difference in cost, I prefer the loose, even if it was not for the fact that I shoot a sidelock. For instance, I have a .50 caliber Hawkins that shoots great at 70 grains of powder, but if you reduce that charge just a little, say down to 67 or 68 grains, it seems to behave better at the longer ranges. You can not customize a load with the pellets. I saw a person at the range trying to cut a pellet in half once, and I asked him what he thought it would accomplish, and he said the in line he was shooting was throwing the shots, and he was told to reduce the powder charge a little, by a friend. He had just gotten into the sport and went with the pellets becaise they were easier to handle... Live and learn, and have fun shooting...... Good shooting all

I've never heard of Serious match shooter using Pellets.
Pellets vs Loose in Side Lock or Inline - Geeeez - Bull Hockey!
Go Loose and use a Clear speed loader with grains marked off in increments. Can't get more precise in tweeking your load for a specific bullet, powder combo.
Loose the Pellets and go Loose.
