I don't think I will use bore butter any more. If using a patched roundball the lube on the patch will prevent fowling enough.
use it.its great. i do.35 years using it,no rust.just dont store it with bore butter if you use HOT WATER to clean.i used warm water for 35 years and nothing but bore butter.roundball plasters his with bb, i never did. just a coat down barrel.i really think what is causing RUST is HOT WATER. just my opinion, rb is better on that.

Really? You need to remember others shoot roundball fine without it but I don't think it make much of a difference.

Plus, it will build up in your bore and cause trouble.

When you clean the rifle sharpshooter.. the idea is to use hot water and clean the old bore butter out. That way you always put fresh bore butter in there, and you do not get a build up since your taking the old accumulation out in the first place.

i never had bore butter build up in bore,BUT i clean it with warm water after each shooting.if you use HOT WATER, you will get rust.then put bore butter on that rust, oh my.soooooooooo,if you use hot water as rb and cayugug said, you have to dry bore quick. i rinsed my bore with hot water, ran down cellar steps to my bench and it rusted that quick.rb called it FLASH RUST. i never had that with WARM WATER and i still got the old bore butter out of bore with ,no rust.i think warm water will get bore butter out IF you clean it when you get home. let it sit for days, hot water i feel is needed.only my opinion from using warm water and no rust for 35 years.
