Default Speer 300gr. Gold Dot HP?

I'm thinking about tryingthe Speer 300gr.GDHPin my Kodiak. Barne's Bullets work good in my muzzy but they are too much to spend on compare speers bullets. What I like to know is, they saythat these bullets are for 45cal handgun but are .451 diameter like the barnes bullets that I've been using. Can I used them in my muzzy with the harvester sabots. The Speer's bullets are .451 like the harvester sabots too. Has anybody use this combination or bullet? Any other sabots that will work with the Speer's bullet? Any advice for me before buying these bullets would be appreciated.... Thanks in advance.

Yes you can use them. I have shot the Speer Gold Dot in a couple different sizes and they worked real good. I personally like Hornady in bulk projectiles better then Speer. Some of them shot good, but could not be pushed too hard or they sprayed all over the place.

The Spreer Gold Dot is a very good bullet. The 300 grain bullet has a BC of 232 and the ballistic look really good even out to 200 yards. The bullet is bonded and doesn not come apart.

The bullet was built for the 454 Casual, but it is not longer offered in .451, it as been redesigned and is now offered in .452. The 250 grain Gold Dot also in .452 will be an outstanding deer bullet and it is bonded also.

I am thinking that your Kodiac is probably a tight barrel you will probabaly need to purchase MMP HPH-24 sabots or Harvester regular sabots. If they do not work then the "crush rib" will but another sabot will be available in April that will work.

Good luck - I have velocities and ballistic charts at home if you would like them.

One final thing - the Barnes is a great bullet but probably un-necessary in most applications for muzzleloaders, besides being expensive. If you are hunting elk or thick skinned animals the Barnes may be one of the best bullets to use from a ML, I use Nosler Partitions for Elk - but I am heavy weighing my options with the 300 Gold Dot Spreer

Once again good luck...

I was shooting them out of my Wolverine with 80 grains of Goex 3f. The did shoot fine, just that some of the Gold Dots spread out. Looking back over my notes, I see these were .429 diameter so I need to do more checking on the .452's.

Sabotloaders,

Those groups are tight. That's what I like to see out of my muzzy. I was wonderingif a.452 bullet fit in a .451 sabot or do I have to match them?

Thanks for the charts.

In most cases a .451 sabot will handle a .452 without a problem. What sabot are you using now to handle your .451's? How do you feel about the effort required to seast this sabot?

finding a good fitting sabot for tight bores will not be a problem soon...
