RE: Traditional .50 or .54
Got to take it out and shoot it a bit today. Had a 4 shot 1.5" group at 50 yards shot off shooting sticks. Group is still about 2" left and I've just about got the rear sight all the way over. I was shooting PRB with 60gr. of Goex FFg and a .015 patches. Shot a few with 90gr. of powder just to see how the recoil was..........it's all good. Only problem I had was about 3 caps didn't go off(one went off on second try), the other 2 were a bear to get off the nipple..............I'm guessing here, but figure my nipple is a little big for the cap's and needs to be filed a bit?????? Overall I liked the feel of the gun and know it will tighten the groups up after I shoot it a bit(and my loading skills get better), also think the cap thing will be a quick fix. Will have to give that front a nudge too. Looking forward to shooting it some more. Charlie

It sounds like you have a great shooting rifle on your hands. And your rifle, get a hot shot nipple and replace the one that came with the rifle. That's usually the first thing I do to all my rifles..

If you are worried about your point of impact beign too far to the left and the fact that your rear sight is about all the way to the right, you might think about taking a brass drift pin and a mallet and tapping your front sight to the left a bit. That is if you have a dovetail seat for the front blade. You might get to bring your rear sight back toward center a bit after this. Just my two cents. By the way, I might have missed it but what is the twist that came with your rifle?

Cayugad, all I find is Hot Shots in 1/4X28 and this gun is 6X.75mm..........any good ones in that size??
Rawhide, it has a dovetailed sight and was planning on going that route. Just hope I don't end way off center with it.......would sorta look goofy(then what would people think of me,hehe). It has a 1 in 48 twist, also has the chrome lined barrel........it did clean up real easy!!

October Country has an excellent selection of different hot shot and spitfire nipples for your rifle. They also carry all the other parts that fit a Lyman rifle, which is technically what your rifle is. If you dislike your sights, they also have fiber optic sights that will fit that rifle and are fully adjustible. I forget the wedge size you have, but they are real helpful people there.
