Default Pyrodex vs. Hogdon Triple 7

I normally shoot 100 gr. 50/50 (2 pellets) of Pyrodex pellets, but just bought some Hogdon Triple 7 (50/50 pellets also). Any idea if these will shoot similar to the Pyrodex I was using???

I hear the 777 burns cleaner.....not as much fouling.

They reduced the weight of the Triple Se7en pellets so that they are equal or close to it in power. This was done because in loose for Triple Se7en is 15% stronger, so there would have been some serious pressure issues if they had not. This is also why many rifles will recommend 120 grains of loose powder or 100 grains in the case of some other rifles, and allow 150 grains of pellets.

So your two pellets should shoot very similar to each other, but a trip to the range is in order just to make sure. While Triple Se7en does burn cleaner then the Pyrodex there is a sometimes trade off and that is the degree of hardness of what fowling is left in the barrel. Triple Se7en has been reported to leave such a hard crud ring in some cases, people simply stopped using it and went to Black Mag 3 or APP. You will still need to swab between shots for your best accuracy potential.. Good luck with your range trip.

The triple 7 does burn clean and shoot shoot relatively similar. Between shots, just run a spit patch through the barrell and shoot again. It's the best way to do it.

Thanks guys. Think I'll end up sticking to the Pyrodex since they work great.

I have shot both Pyrodex and Triple Seven both in pellet form and loose powder form. I finally got a jug of APP loose FFF powder andI honestly don't thinkI will ever switch back toany other kind of powder. It is the best thingI have ever shot out of a front loader and the ease of cleaning goes umatched by any other type of powder . My T/C Omega loves 90-100 grains of FFF APP behind a 348 grain powerbelt.
