im intrested in buying a cva fire bolt, bass pro has combo including 45.cal and 50, cal barrel for 169.99$ wondering if anyone has shot one or owns one would like info on accuracy or any other feed back

There are three excellent buys going on at Bass Pro right now. One is the H & R Sidekick for $149-- another is theKnight Disc Elite 45-cal for $199/$249 & last is the T/C Omega for $299. The Firebolt you are looking at is a discontinued model. There's very little difference in shot-groups/distances having both barrels. Accuracy can be suspect & the action creates excessive blowback & fouling that impedes movement quickly.

Just my opinion based onowner replies/troubleshooting threads on boards like this one.

chance to try it out. But for the money it looks to be a good buy.

As for a CVA product. I used to be a person that never talked them down. I just can not in good conscience anymore recommend a BPI product to someone. In case some of you are not aware, it was reported on a different forum that a CVA Kodiak, NIB failed. There has just been too many of these rifle barrels failing as of late (actually one is too many). Granted I have no information on what the load was or the circumstances of this. All I gather from the posting was it was loaded with an approved manufacturer's load.

If you want an inline rifle, stick with Thompson Center, Knight, NEF, White, Savage or A&H I believe. These are all tested rifles. My intention is not to start some big arguement. If you shoot a BPI product and are happy with it, fine. I own them also. Just know your rifle and your load.

(Just curious) How is that a large retailer like Cabela's or Bass Pro can

The same way auto dealers sell vehicles that fail periodically.

The most important feature with stronger barrel manufacturers like Knight & T/C is the ability to minimize barrel damage when shooter error occurs - such as accidently short-seating the bullet or shooting either double bullets or double powder charges.

They can sell them because the manufacturer carries the liability for the quality of their product for the most part. If a car dealer sells you a new ford truck you do not hold the car dealer responsible if the truck is a lemon. You complain to them and in turn they get the manufacturer to fix the problem.

The trouble with black powder rifles is there are no set standards when they are produced or sold. No government regulations out there state, your barrel must withstand X PSI of pressure to be sold in the US. They do not even regulate the bore diameters as many have found out. They purchase a rifle and find they can not fit a certain.50 caliber projectile down the bore.

It is up to the manufacturer to go that extra distance to make better quality barrels and parts so if the rifle fails there is less of a chance someone is hurt.
