270 grain .50 caliber Ball-ets
#1

I had heard on other forums and have a friend that shoots ball-ets that they are accurate out of is Wolverine II. I have both the 245 & 270 grain Buffalo Bullet Ball-ets around the house, so I decided to try them in the Wolverine II with the Sightron Scope. I moved the bench rest to the 50 yard station. I loaded 90 grainsof Goex 2f and a 270 grain ball-et. I then fired four shots without swabbing the barrel. I then made a scope adjustment and fired one more shot for effect. This caused the tape on bulls eye to fall off the box. After seeing the accuracy of the load I was more then impressed. I am going to try then a longer distances maybe tomorrow or Tuesday. If they do well, a 270 grain pure lead conical hollow point might make a fine deer hunting load....

LOOKS GOOD!! That should put deer down nicely!!
I didn't know they made a 270 grain.
I really don't have a use for the Ball et's though. I shoot the T/C Maxi Balls and thats all I will need, that and Round Balls. I do have some 245's around, so may do some testing this winter, next spring just for the heck of it. I just want to use a bigger bullet on elk, and the Round ball or the Maxi Ball for that matter will be fine for deer.
One more question - Do you use a scope. I can't use a scope during the muzzle loader seasons here, so I don't use one at all. The best group I can get at 50 yards is about 2", 75 is a little worse, and 100 is right around 3.5-4" for 3 shots out of my CVA Bobcat.

I have a scope on this rifle yes.. I use it in the modern season and to target shoot. In our muzzleloading season we are not allowed any magnification on our rifles. I then use one of my other rifles for that.

Cayugad - Wow, that's some nice shootin'. Just curious how your Wolverine II shoots PRBs. I've never tried the Ball-ets, but after seeing your target I decided to do a little surfing on the net to see what I could find out. They seem to claim that the Ball-et is somewhere between the traditional RB and the conical...not only in terms of looks, but in terms as performance.
Just curious if I could expect my TCs that like conicals to also like the Ball-ets or will my slower twist Firehawk (1:38) that shoots RB pretty well under lower charges to like Ball-ets. Also, how many Ball-ets are in a box, 20 or 50?
Thanks as always for posting your targets; I always look forward to seeing them.
I've even downloaded a couple and saved them for reference.....ya never know whey your ML collection will grow and you're looking for a "hint" as to what load it will like.
Really, thanks for taking the time to post your shot up targets !

My Wolverine will shoot roundball real good as long as I do not push them too hard. I do not go over 70 grains of 2f and it will shoot some impressive groups. When I shoot 50 grains of 2f and a patched roundball, I actually think I could small game hunt with the kind of accuracy I get out of it.
As to whether your rifle will shoot ball-ets, all you can do it try. They were on sale last year so I bought three boxes of the 245 and the 270 grains. My Hawkins 1-48 twist shoots the 245 grain ballets excellent. I figured faster twist, longer conical so I went with the 270 this time and it worked... They do look like a conical with a roundball face, and then of course there is a hollow point in them. They should really do a number on something when they hit. I have shot deer with the 245 grain ballet and it flattened them on the spot..

if your waiting to try them out i picked up 2 boxes last year at walmart for 3 bucks a box of 50.......if nothing else it leaves you with alot of cheap shooting to do when your bored......i am deer hunting with the 270gr HP ballets saturday...and up until next saturday if i dont fill tags.....see how it goes......i didnt get cayugad accuracy....20yds i can hit a mountain dew can no problem....40-45yds i can put them on the inside circle of a paper plate(6 inches or so(my groups actually probably arent bad but all high at that range) im not completely happy...but my shots are going to be 20-30yds...15-25yds ill aim where i want it....anywhere out to 50(if i havea farther shot somehow) ill aim for the heart..if i get a shot ill let you know how they performed for me.....shooting 75grs of 3fg goex...going a little slower....but i have faith they will put a hole in a deer...270gr HP cruising at 1500fps or so.....i dont want to be on the other end of the bullet!

Excellent group. I've always wondered how they'd shoot in my slow-twist RB barrels. I get some interesting performance from Maxi-balls in these guns.....
