HI nyflyer:
Come hunt with us in NW B.C. Canada. We are a company with two outfit areas. We offer fly-in hunts into remote, floatplane accessable only areas. Chance of getting a moose over 50" is very high. Visit our websites at www.canadahunting.net & www.irrhunting.com or phone my master outfitters Allan & Clint Larson at 1-250-847-5148 or 1-250-877-1409(mobile phone) for hunt details. Thanks

Indian river ranch does indeed produce exceptional moose but then again at $7200US for a moosehunt and most likely a charter fee into camp it is certainly getting pricey. One more outfitter producing exceptional moose in the same area is Taku outfitters 250-651-7784.I took a grizzly with them several years ago and saw some huge moose.A top quality outfit with great guides and facilities that takes moose in the 55" to 65" range but his trophy moose hunt was $6900 then and I don't have his current prices.

Grayowl-No outfit will guarantee a 50" bull for obvious reasons such as hunters in poor shape that can't get around or hunters that can't shoot or extended periods of bad weather or several other legitimate reasons. However the areas in northern B.C. that I refer to manage well over 90% on their moose hunts with bulls averaging 50" or better.I saw many 50"+ bulls on my hunts in this area and on the elk and moose hunt that I was on everyone took home a six point elk and a large bull moose.I saw several mature bull moose and six point elk every day.My own bull was just over 49" and I could have taken a larger one but I wanted to get a bull moose early in order to spend more time elk hunting.Another fellow in camp took a record book bull moose. The smallest bull was about 46" and that was because the hunter was 72 years old and was not very mobile. There are several places where a 50" bull moose is possible but I have never seen a place where they were so common.

A 50" isn't too uncommon in British Columbia and you only have to pay $2500 which usually includes a black bear or mule deer.
on the other hand...
Alaska a 50" is barely a legal moose and a 65" isn't too uncommon, course gotta cough up the cash...

I don't need a garenteed hunt, just need to know that there are 50" ers in the area I'm hunting. That way If I choose to pass on somthing smaller I at least know it was for a good reason.

Hey stubblejumper, whare is this that you were hunting and around how much would it to be to go there? I wan't to go on a moose hunt for a trophy and i live in maine and cant seem for the life of me to get a permit. I was thinking about alaska in about 3 years or so but i dont want to over pay when i could go some whare else and get one of 50" or more and save a grand or two. I know what most of you are going to say "if i live in maine why dont i just hunt up here." The thing is i do and i havnt seen many 50"ers or larger and when i did its during deer season and like I said I have never got my permit yet so it would be kinda hard to sneak one into camp like the extra partrage.

I hunted with muskwa safaris on the prophet and muskwa river drainages. If I was to go again it would probably be with indian river ranch or taku outfitters as they tend to get slightly bigger moose.I also thought that taku had better guides and equipment than prophet muskwa.

I hunted with Keith Connors and Shane Black (BC Safaris) in northern BC this past September. I did take a fairly nice moose:

Some things you need to be aware of:
1. On a moose hunt, you get what you pay for. There are cheap moose hunts and there are good moose hunts. Seldom is a hunt cheap and really good.
2. Usually the price of the hunt does not include the cost of licenses or the cost of float plane flight into the hunting area. Also, if you go to northern BC, air travel is a bit more expensive than you might think.
3. Weather can be a bear. On my hunt, it rained for the first seven days, then snowed the next three. Then we went home. I didn't see the sun but one time in the ten days. Having said that, I would go again in a heartbeat.
I have hunted moose in northern Alberta and Newfoundland, also. If you want more information, email me. [email protected]
