Default Colorado Snow

Oh Boy...Although we did receive dustings of snow above 11,000 ft. earlier this week, The snow levels dropped to about 8,000 last night. As I look out of my office at 9,300 ft. It is a full-on white out with about 3 inches accumulation and rising. More snow is forecast throughout the day and into tomorrow. While this bodes well for guys in the woods right now, the sun will eventually return with colder evening temps putting us in a melt/freeze cycle until it is all gone. ( which it will be... It never stays around too long when it snow s this early) This means a crunchy layer of snow through the mornings as the melting snow from the previous day freezes overnight. Sorry for the bad news if you are coming into mountains in the next few days.

Beans,

Thanks for the update from the high country. I love to hear that snow is falling up high. Just makes for a better all around situation, when there is some moisture coming down.

Yep, I wish I was up there right now.

Calling for 2" - 6" above 8500 feet in the mountains tonight.

Hey Beans, maybe we' ll get a long ski season this year.

Yeah, BB. We got a foot at the top of the ski area. (Crested Butte) Sun came out here in Gunny today, and it should actually begin to seriously melt off by the begining of next week. Hope so. When it lays on top of the leaves in the shade, it gets rotten and crunchy and makes walking quietly almost impossible. ....We won' t complain about the added moisture here in CO though, will we?

A couple of days ago the snow was 5 " up on Mt Evans which made a wonderful site from the Denver area. Last weekend driving back from the Flattops it rain the whole way back to the Front Range. Shaping up to have some early heavy snow.
