sako/tikka rifles
#1
I' m in the market for a Elk gun. I was thinking about a Tikka T3 or a Sako 75. I know the tikka is new but does anyone have any experience with either of these rifles?

If I had a choice I' d take the Sako.
I have one and it is an awesome gun, nicely finished and accurate..
The Tikka is also a great rifle and represents good value for money

If I had to do things over, all my rifles would be Sako, except my Marlin 1895. I have one which is extremely accurate, well finished and I thought was a steal for the price. It had been sitting on the dealer' s shelves for almost two years (I guess because it was a .416). In any event, it will be my elk rifle for the forseeable future. Good Luck.
I forgot about what Stubblejumper said, which is true. If you decide on Sako, make sure you get the Optilock bases/rings, not the Leupold set.

I have fired a couple of sako 75' s and they were quite accurate.They are however quite heavy and I never really liked their scope mounting system.I prefer bases to be screwed to the receiver rather than held on a dovetail.

I just sold my A-Bolt and bought a Tikka Whitetail Hunter in 7mm Rem. Mag, stainless, laminated stock. Gun is guarenteed to shoot 1" at 100 yards. Price was great, detachable external magazine, silky-smooth action. I love my Tikka!!!
Tikka is made by Sako of course. The T3' s are not quite as nice so look for one of the other models. They both use the same barrels so I think the Tikka is the better deal. Sako is great too but you get more for your money with the Tikka.
This is another site I frequent and they rave about the Tikka' s there;

At least find one and hold it and run the action. I can' t see how you can go wrong with a Tikka (but avoid the T3 unless you really like it in person). The stock on the T3 synthetic is cheap-feeling and they cut corners this year by making them all long-action but using a spacer in the magazine to accomodate short-action calibers.
