A buddy of mine came back from a black bear bowhunt. He killed a bear so he smoked a shoulder and brought it to work for the rest of us to try.
First time I've ever had bear meat and it was really good!
You bear hunters are on to something.

If you know someone who has a pig roaster and they can cook pigs well on those things, try a whole bear on there. A friend of mine has done a couple for me. They are great cooked that way. The only way I will ever cook a bear again. If the bear is over 200 lbs. Not sure how good they are, but the ones under that size have a great taste to them. I have also heard from a few hunters in my area that canned bear meat is awesome too. meat sure would be tender that is for sure.

I was going by what the guy who roasted my bear. He has roasted many bear, maybe he just had a bad one that was big.I think a lot of people won't even try it when they kill it because the fat stinks so when you are skinning them it turns them off. My grandfather killed one a long time ago, he took the fat and burned it down to an oil. He was so sick of the smell he couldn't eat it. My father ate it. He had a rug made out of it. After he passed away, my aunt got the rug. She was married to this guy and after a while they divorced. The friggin guy gave it away. We would have liked to have it in our family. My kids love the taste of bear when we roast them. I have seen people try it and they could not believe it was bear. Our bear season is still going on now. I have a field behind my house and I have apple trees out there. What a huge pile he has left out there. Looks like a big bear. Took my 11 year old out with me last night deer hunting, I was hoping to show him the bear also.
