Has anyone hunted elk in this area? We are heading out in a couple weeks (last minute thing).
We have general tags so we said why not?
How are the elk numbers in this area?
Any recomondations for a hotel?
Is there any snow there yet?
Sorry for all the questions. But I did say last minute.

There's no snow there yet. I would stay at the Spa motel. They have nice natural hot spring pools that are nice after a long day. (my uncle used to own that motel) Elk numbers are decent around there it just depends on what direction you are going. The best hunting is on private land but you'll find elk anywhere.

Might be some snow now, and yes there is definately good hunting in the area. I know of a few groups of friends who have been doing really well so far. That is a good sign because the weather has been mild all week. Will be up there myself next weekend.

I second staying at the hot springs! We go ice-fishing for ling, the only freshwater member of the cod family, every winter by White Sulphur and stay at the hot springs. Sure feels awesome when you are cold and sore after a long day in the field.
Slow season so far, but saw two different bulls yesterday. I have a highly coveted cow permit that should bea snap to fill if only I could stop seeing bulls!
