Not trying to put blame on either party involved. But, I'm going to have to agree with others that you can't expect this type of work to be done on exact dates. It's to hard to do. Especially if you want quality work done. Now I can't say that the guy was right to tell you to expect your work done within a certain amount of time and then an excessive amount of time went by after that. Because it creates unreasonable expections. I know a friend of mine that does taxidermy on the side can't get a mount done for me in less then about 5-6 months, and he is only working on about 3-4 a year. But, if he told me it would be done in 4 months and it wasn't it would be no big deal. I would ask how it was coming and try to get a round about date from him. But, like a lot of people say, stuff happens, and maybe he can't get to it. You got to just let it go if you want a decent job. This guy may have just got it done as fast as he could because of the pressure put on him.

Here is another for instance: I have a longbow being made for me. Normal turn around time is about 10 months. Twelve months have passed now, and I still don't have my bow. I talked to the bowyer about a month ago and asked how the progress was coming. He told me of some family problems that he had during the past few months and he got somewhat behind. I told him "no worry", wished him the best, and told him that I hope that everything works out for him. And I do genuinely mean that. However, there is no way that I'm going to demand my bow. And if I did, I wouldn't expect it to be completely the way I want. I really don't want him to feel like, jeez, I made this guy a promise, now I got to get this out the door as fast as possible.

i have yet to see where anyone has gotten a mount in 3months or even 4 months. it appears it is about 9 months and longer. i do not know what thread you saw.
you were attacking anyone that disagreed with you and resorted more than once to name calling. i never sent you a private email or called you names. this was done just by you.
you sound very young and afraid to admit when you made a mistake. again the guy was wrong for saying 3 months. nothing has ever been done on a exact time or day basis. you were also wrong for not gathering more info thai is knowones fault but yout own. i have not seen many who have agreed with you either. you avoided the question as to if you had ever had a mount done before this. if you had you would have known the info you were given was wrong. otherwise it is part of your responsibilty to check and verify information. that is your fault for not doing so.
i will not and have not stooped to your level of name calling. this just shows immaturity on your part.

bob d I would have to agree with you. I just read your post and everthing that everybody posted. I don't see how they can blame you. From what I see the guy told you three months. Are you just not suppose to contact him at all when the three months are up and just sit around. It sounds like you did what most people would have done and asked him what was going on. Is everybody on the sight saying that you should have used another taxidermist and this guy is shotty. If that is the case then that was the message you were trying to get accross. I would think that you would be able to take your ram back and get it fixed right. That how I would feel. Does your taxidermist say that yes he did tell you three months but he got busy or was that just a complete lie. It sounds like you got screwed by that taxidermist to me. I would go to him and ask what the problem was. Face to face is always the best. The phone or internet thing usually doesn't work. Everybody feels pretty tough when your not looking them in the eye.

I am almost afraid to put in my two cents worth on this one! I don`t want beat up, or worse, but here goes!
I have gotten many, and I mean many mounts back in 3-4 months. And from the hands down best taxidermist in the area. Some of the mounts are now 15 years old, and still in fantastic shape.

dep214, why would you call another taxidermist to verify a completion time of the original taxidermist? Am I missing something here?

Bob, you gotta cut ol` beaverjack some slack, the creeks been frozen over for quite awhile now.

You go that long without a bath, and see how touchy you get!

it is just like buying a car. would you accept was a salesman told you or would you check around? you hav to use common sense here.i talked to several taxidermist here in this area and they have not heard of a mount being done in 3 months.they would have to cut corners and that would take away from the qyality of the mount.my father in law was a avid hunter.he had mounts from fish to elk.these were done from texas, new mexico, and colorado.my fish mount, black bass, took about 6 months.my hog mount took over a year. most of the hogs are done in about 9 months.when dealing with mother nature you can not pen down a exact time.
i ask this guy if he had ever had a mount done before. he avoided the question. this is prob where the problem is. it was his first mount or he would have known better than to think he woulkd get the mount back in 3 months.

It sounds to me like the taxidermist told you 3 months to get the biz. Once they have the cape, horn and the deposit your stuck with the wait and he knew that. I have heard of this stuff before and although uncommon, it happens. I guess you know what not to do and what would be a reasonable turn around time next round. BTW, I would never push an artist, things don't always turn out and mounts are art. If he told you a timeframe, which was a guideline..although he was way off. He told you he would fix the horn...that never happened...but in my mind both are to blame. Sure he never held up his part of the bargin, but you never picked up the phone and talked to this guy...it is pretty easy to blow off emails. He might have had a perfectly good explaination but you continued to push and he just wanted you gone and now your gone.

I wouldn't say I am siding with him or you, both were in the wrong and IMHO share in the blame or outcome. Hopefully next time things will work out better for you, through this experience. I would suggest trying to get another taxidermist fix up your mount the way you would like, so you can get over this and enjoy your trophy.

Hey dep, can I ask you a question? Thank`s!

How many animals/heads have you had mounted?

I`ll be back to see your answer, but right now I gotta call pizza hut to see if pizza outlet is telling me the truth about this delivery time? 25 minutes doesn`t sound right to me!
