I'm going to be hunting black bear in pa with a bow for the first time this year. I currently have a 60 lb. bow. Is this a big enough bow to take down a black bear? Do you recommend fixed or expandable braodheads when hunting bear.
Thanks for the help.

Pa bow hunter;6 days and no one has offered an opinion. That is dissapointing. A 60 # compound or recurve/longbow is more than adequate. Shoot within your accurate range, would limit shots on bear to 25-30 yds max. or closer. If you shoot expanadables, you need sufficient kinetic energy for adequate penetration. A cut on contact, likeMagnus or Zwickeyor a broadhead like a Muzzy or Thunderhead3 bladewill give sufficent penetration with sharp blades. Use arrows of 500 grains or better. The equipment used for whitetails will also be adequate for black bear in Pa. Avoid hitting the shoulder blade, only take broadside or quartering chest shots. There is a lot of info out there, see the Big game hunting forums on Hunting net, http://www.bowsite.com/ http://www.huntingpa.com/ Nov 14-15 is your days this fall 2007. Good luck !If you want more days use the rifle season, and hunt with the bow ! HH in Pa
