A little help understanding AZ Big Game Laws...
#1
Posted this in another forum, but thought it might get some more attention here
So, is every big game species in AZ draw?
If not, what species can be bought OTC?
I looked at their website and their Big Game Brouchure, and I was a little confused...
Any help would be great. I have a brother who lives in Cottonwood, and was thinking I would like to do some Mulie hunting in AZ.
Ps. I hunt archery only

Campo,
Give the Team at Arizona Fish and Game a call and talk to them about what you are looking to do and where you want to go, and they will help you! They are all great people and are eager and willing to help you plan your hunt! From what I know all of Arizona is a draw state with no over the counter tags, but there are areas where you can draw tags. If you need assistance use an application service to assist you in applying for the dream hunts that you want to do!

Campo,
Go to www.AZGFD.com and look at the reg for the fall 2006-2007 seasons and on page 9 they list the animals that require permit (drawings) and animals and season that are non-permit (OTC). It’s not too hard but does take time to read and understand what is what. Example: deer seasons are mostly draw except for OTC archery deer tags. They can be used only when special permit (draw) seasons are closed and the regs spell that out really well.
We can hunt archery deer thru January but you have to purchase another OTC tag for that since it's a new year and it will count against you if you harvest a deer in January so you won't be able to apply for a deer tag thru the drawing process. If you don’t harvest a deer in January then you are free to apply for a permit (draw tag) later in the year, plus your archery tag is still good till the end of the year. You are only allowed ONE deer per year regardless of how you harvest it!

The deer in Az for archery is ALL OTC. There are basically 3 seasons: late Aug thru Sept
Dec 15th-Dec31st
Jan1-Jan31
When you buy the Jan archery tag it is good all the way thru Dec 31st of that year. If you buy the tag in Aug it is good thru Dec31
If you but the tag Dec 31 say 07, it is good till the end of that day. Buying an Az archery tag and even filling that tag does not affect Az bonus points. It is SPECULATED that Az will go to archery draw in 2008.
