Best ML Bullet for Elk?
I'm going to try and draw for elk this fall for elk in a primative weapons unit. I have a Thompson Center Omega and am trying to find the best load/bullet that has best ballistics out to 200 yards. I have a Thompson Center Firestorm flintlock that I use for deer and load 2 50gr pryrodex pellets with a 240gr Hornady XTP. I was thinking of using 3 50gr pryrodex pellets in the Omega for Elk and am searching for the bullet with the best ballistics.

I was using 290 gr. barnes spitfires with 3-50gr triple seven pellets. .50 cal. All copper bullet boat tail with ballistic tip. Found this load to be very accurate and ballitics are good (I don't have the ballistics in front of me right now) Very very good weight retention.

I set up my own "primitive" smoke pole this way:50cal. percussion Hawkin style. 80gr of loose pyrodex. .490 round ball. I'm dead on at 75 yards, and hold a little high at 100.

If you require or desire a full caliber conical try Noexuses bullets..
I use the 460 grain .50 cal. in my old T/C Hawken... Excellent accuracy and easy loading, and ahead of 80 grains of 777 it shoots flatter than you might expect..
