I'm going to try and draw for elk this fall for elk in a primative weapons unit.
If this is indeed a "primitive hunt", you need to check your regs to be sure that the Omega is legal. Most inlines are not allowed on primitive hunts. The flinter should be fine as long as it is 50 cal. or better (most regs I've seen require 50cal or bigger for elk). Most primitive hunts I've seen also spec that you can only use loose blackpowder or pyrodex, and pellets are not allowed. The final kicker to the primitive hunts are the use of patched round ball or non-jacketed lead conicals, so that puts all the "modern" bullets right out the window. You may also check to see if there is a turns ratio requirement as well. I've seen a maximum of 1 in 48 twist ratio.
I set up my own "primitive" smoke pole this way:50cal. percussion Hawkin style. 80gr of loose pyrodex. .490 round ball. I'm dead on at 75 yards, and hold a little high at 100.
