The R1 is the main gun that I'm looking at and with the comfortech stock it should be a joy to shoot. I keep hearing good and bad things about it though, not sure what to think.

The Benelli supposedly has problems with jamming, from what I've heard and read. I still say the BAR would be the better buy.

Both the Browning BAR and the R1 are great guns.I do like the recoil reduction system on the r1 when it can so caled make a 300WSM feel like a .270.If I had to pick 1 caliber to get the R1 in I would go with the 30-06 becuase it can be used for any big game in North America. Now if you plan on getting it in a 300 Winchester Mag I would then also get a .270 Mag Barrel with it.The only thing is that you will have to change your sight and take the gun in to the gunsmith every time you want to change out your barrel thus is why I would buy it in 30-06 and be done with it.If you have any other guns thatare of alighter caliber then a 300wsm would be a good choose for your larger big game animals.
Northernforest,
How is the accuracy of the R1? I would be leary of any gun that I could change the barrel out of. I guess when you have 5 or so quick shots, accuracy isn't as much of a concern

I was at the gun shop with my uncle, and we saw some of the new BARs, (the ones with the composite, futuristic stocks), and boy were those things light! Some of the lightest guns, I've ever held.

I personally would like to get one, a BAR Safari in .338 Win. Mag. That looks like a nice gun. Add a Limb Saver recoil pad, and it'd be perfect!

Well I went out today and got a chance to drool over a few guns and I have to say the BAR LongTrac Stalker is a damn nice gun. I'm thinking the 30-06 should do the trick...
