I am going to huntOver The Counter Elk in Colorado the last week of Archery season (Sept. 16 thru Sept. 24). I can't decide if I want to go to unit 22 or units 14,214. Any info about these areas would be very helpful. I have hunted Colorado several times, usually in draw unit 23, however, I am still looking for a good over the counter area for when I don't get drawn for unit 23. Thanks for any info.

Trial and error my freind, just pick one and hunt it.
From what I hear Colorado has elk behind every tree, way more than we have in Montana, one behind everyother tree here.
If you have been to Colorado befor,go to the area thats closet to where you have been before. If not look for a area that has good cover, decent access, water, food and timber.OR I would look at harvest reports of those area's the area that has a large harvest number, thats where I would head(or that could mean more pepole but at least some elk there).

I dislike hunting (elk) new places and areas. It takes so much time to hunt a new area and the seasons are so short. Don't always have time to go out during the summer and scout.
I get comfortable with an area and like to stay with it.
I also hunt CO GMU 23.

Thanks, for the replies. I am getting tired of hunting new places also. Every year, I say that I am not going to go if I can't go to the unit I want, but then the urge to go elk hunting gets the better of me. I still think that a bad day hunting is still better than not hunting at all. Even the worst trip that I went on was still a good hunting trip. So, I will keep on hunting somewhere, even if its not were I prefer to go. Thanks again.
