I am looking for a new gun, something my 14 year old daughter can use as well, she uses all my guns but not my fav, 308 cal. lever. She uses my 50 cal inline and my pump 12 gauge, but likes her .410 if there is alot of walking. I have been reading alot about this 25-06 with 115 gr. for deer and I am kind of impressed. I hate to say, I have also have been looking at the 243, but I am not a big fan of it. There is also the 6mm, and one of my friends was using this year a 22-250, and was dropping deer all over the place, big internal damage for such a small gun, but this guy you can give him a sling shot, and he will still fill half the tags in the group, lol. I have to confess, I also want to play with it, for some out open hunting, 200 to 400 yards. So tell me what you guys think

2506 or 7mm 08 should fit the bill nicely for your daughter, both are excellent deer/longer range guns. The 7mm08 could also be used for elk or moose with the proper bullet and some self imposed limits. I know of many younger and females hunters using the 7mm 08 seems to be the .243 of older days with more potential in way of bullets that can be used.

My top choices would be a .257 Roberts or a 25-06. They both handle a 120 grain bullet nicely, which a .243 or 6mm won't. The .257 shoots a decent sized bullet at decent velocity with very moderate recoil. The only real problem with the .257 is that ammo is a little harder to come by. The 25-06 has better trajectory and more velocity, but it has a good bit more recoil. Ammo for a 25-06 can be had nearly anywhere, and rifles are a little easier to come by.
