I have a Sendero 26" barreled 300 remington ultra mag and am trying to figure out an accurate hunting load with a bullet that will hold together. Most of the bullets I have read up on that have a high BC claim to have violent expansion. Can anyone help me save some barrel life and my poor old shoulder? Thanks a bunch

well if u wana save ur shoulder maybe u should go to a smaller caliber like 270 or 25-06. Though i dont know what u are hunting for. If u want a good bullet that stays together check out the accubonds or the nosler partitions or trophy bonded bear claws.

I guess may be I should upgrade my question. Could someone who has done the homework on the 300 RUM save me some time at the shooting bench? I've spent years as an elk guide and have some pretty good knowlege on bullet performance. What I would really like is to have a bullet that will hold up for elk and still give me my best chance at 1000 yrd. coyote (bad year for them here and the *&^$&^$#%#*& killed one of my hounds a while back). Once I have my ballistics worked up, Leupold will send me a turrent with the yardages out to 1000 yrds. The Trophy Bonded and Partitions are a couple of the best weight retention bullets going, but are not designed for that long distance ^%$&^%& coyote that ate my dog.

Try the barnes tsx.I am using the 180gr tsx in my 300ultramags with great results.Velocity is around 3370fps and accuracy is sub 3/4 MOA.They also have a high ballistic co-efficient for longer range shooting.
