Well after reading about Elkcrazy8,I just have to get into the elk woods.
Harvest ended this week,exceptI have to work tomarrow.But I got permission from the wife Sunday and Monday are mine.The bow is packed,tent, water and food.Clothes are in a bag and so come 5pm Saturday I'm off to the Breaks.Hillbillyhunter(Chad) and ELKNMT(Charles)called last night they were headed out and called me on their way through.
I just can't stand it,I'm having sever with drawls,I have the shakes,and the guts are all twisted up,this is my first year bow hunting elk.I'm about ready to pop.
Who else are headed out this weekend any more MT boys going?
It's the opener and I'm shure the elk know it come A.M. tomarrow.

Jack double check everything. Went out this morning to do some scouting and came across a bachlor group of huge mulies whipped out the camera and the batteries were dead[:@]Reached in and got my spare and it was dead to.
I am double checking everything before tomarrows opener
Now I have to redeam myself by finding the group and getting a piicture.

Well no bull this time out.
We left abou 7pm on Saturday and got to our destination about 11 pm.Set up camp and hit the sack.Up at 4:30 am and got our written permisson from him around 5 am(don't worry he was up already).
walked in about 2 miles and set up just befor daylight on elk trails leaving alfalfa feilds.Tried some soft cow calling,called in a cow and calf about 7:30 am but no bulls.Left there about 9 and hiked in to some water holes looking for sign and wallowing,but no luck.Sat out the rest of the afternoon till about 4 in the evening(got realy hot around a 100 degrees).Left the water hole and made a big walk down a ridge that circles back into the feilds hoping to ambush a herd heading back,but no luck.
Stopped back at ranch house about 8 pm and visted with rancher and 2 hunters who had killed a 6-point(nice bull).
Went back to camp and ate some dinner and hit the hay,up at 4:30 and did the same thing over again,saw a small 5 point and a spike of in the distance and tried to circle around them to maybe get a shot but they beat me over the ridge.Got back to camp about 3pm and packed up and headed home.
I will give it another shot this weekend and hopefully it will cooldown and they will get alittle more vocal.

glad to hear you got to go this weekend BJ. Sorry I didn't call you the second time on our way up there but we had to pull over for an extended electrical repair on our trailing vehicles. We had a great weekend though. sawa good manyelk andsome nicebulls, now I just gotta get a little closer (had1 at about 80 yds).lots of pressure there too. Charles passed up a shot ata smallbull. We'll be back again Fri for two weeks. I'll give you a call tonight. keep that map with you. goood luck

Hey Chad,
Good to hear you had some luck(with the elk).Maybe next time you will connect.
If you guys come back through swing by the house if you want,I'm going to go back out Saturday and Sunday to the Mountains and try up there.I leave the 14th-25th to hunt over by where we did last fall.So if you get a good one send me pic's.
I will be waiting for your call tonite.
