Thanks, I drew a Gen tag. Will be hunting with Yellowstone Outfitters in unit # 60, Thorofare. Should be a great hunt! Do you know any of his Lynn's guides?
None work for him that I know real well, but I know of him and his guide service. He's a good one and one of the good ol' boys in the area. I grew up in Kemmerer, about 1 1/2 hrs south of Lynn's shop (if he's still out of Afton). Unit 60 is great and is in the wilderness. You won't be within 30+ miles of a road!!

I grew up hunting the country near from Jackson to Kemmerer and hit the Teton Wilderness a few times too. You will enjoy it and be amazed how remote it is if you've never been out here. Even though your going off horses and camping waaaay back in, I would get in shape now. Plus, don't just walk on treadmill or a stair climber. Get your hunting gear on and start walking up and down the biggest hills you can find!!

Good luck and have FUN!! I'll look forward to the report.

HuntElk4fun, Thanks for the input! When you book a hunt like this you are really working in the dark. You try to do as much research as possible but there is always that uncertainty in the back of your mind about what kind of guy you will be dealing with. It's good to here he is a "good ole boy"! As far as being in shape, I have been working out for the past 5 years to be in exceptional shape for this hunt, if and when I could book it. My only problem is the altitude. I live at 600' elevation. Not many hills around here! I'll keep working hard though. Thanks again!

Work out with a painters mask on to get used the low oxygen!! -- Just kiddin' One other thing. A few months/weeks before the hunt, find someone (if possible) who has a horse and ride it every now and then. 30 miles on a horse will make someone who hasn't been on one a sore dog!! No prep that I know of can match sitting your butt in a saddle besides just doing it.

No problem on the help, PM me if needed. I'd be happy to answer questions you, or anyone for that matter, has regarding hunting out West.

I've got that worked out too. I've got a neighbor who has horses and he has told me that I can ride anytime.

Being a non-resident its going to cost to much to accumulate PP. I know what I'm going to do, I'll fool them, I will just move to Wyoming! That's one way of not paying for the non-res tags. If I want to hunt moose I'll have to look at another state. I wont live long enough to draw a moose tag in Wy! What do you think about that huntnmuleys? car

the one i dont like for the non-residents is that whole special permit, where they charge a double fee, and give better odds. that is a total ripoff, but the way it has set itself up, with the odds being so much higher with the special, they sell em every year.

total crap, but it is what their doing. thank god im a resident.

however, i do a lot of swap hunts, and this has become an issue for me on a few occasions now.

i hate it

It is worse than you believe because they don't promise better odds than the standard pool.

All they have done is split the non-resident tags into 2 pools 50/50...

If more people apply to the expensive pool than the cheaper pool, the odds in the cheaper pool are better.

Btw, don't think that it doesn't happen... It does...

The 2 pool system is the PURE EXPLOITATION of the non-resident in action and a perfect example of Wyoming's (and other states) whoring of OUR wildlife resources.

Actually, it is not as far fetched as you believe... people have trained with different breathing aparatuses to limit the amount of oxygen taken in with each breath. The most effective one looked like an oxygen mask with a elk bugle tube attached to it.

The length of the tube, 18", and the baffling didn't allow for a completely fresh breath so each breath included a portion of the previous breath thus lowering the oxygen content of each breath and simulating trainging at higher altitude.

What was found however in most studies was that they only people that really benifited from that "elevation" training were athletes is extraordinary condition, however, it took those athletes longer to reap the benifits because, while their body aclimated to the "elevation change", they lost some of their cardiovascular conditioning and they were unable to regain it as fast as they would have been able to at sea level.

Basically, it is the entire reason why blood doping is so effective when compared to people training at elevation... The doper gets all of the benifits of training in an oxygen rich enviroment and then they can super charge their oxygen delivery system by blood doping.

Blood doping is literally like having a fast motor and then adding nitrous oxide...

Just gotta jump in here. Self serve car washes are a boon here. With all the mud and the stage coaches running the ruts usually late too.

For the guided hunters coming to "Big Wonderful" Please do not take this lightly. GET IN SHAPE! Don't try to fool your guide by saying you're an expert!!! at anything. Leave your pride at home!! Old dead eye missed at 50 yards with his 300 ultramag and 2000 dollar scope.

If you've never been in a situation, SAY SO!!! we don't give a damn how you did it back home we live here and this IS how it's done here. Leave your pride at home. Most natives Wyomingites would be Thrilled to take a 350 class bull Elk or a 24 inch mulie or a 70+ P&Y or B&C antelope. Most importantly Welcome to WYO and enjoy the great outdoors.
