Work out with a painters mask on to get used the low oxygen!! -- Just kiddin' One other thing. A few months/weeks before the hunt, find someone (if possible) who has a horse and ride it every now and then. 30 miles on a horse will make someone who hasn't been on one a sore dog!! No prep that I know of can match sitting your butt in a saddle besides just doing it.
Actually, it is not as far fetched as you believe... people have trained with different breathing aparatuses to limit the amount of oxygen taken in with each breath. The most effective one looked like an oxygen mask with a elk bugle tube attached to it.

The length of the tube, 18", and the baffling didn't allow for a completely fresh breath so each breath included a portion of the previous breath thus lowering the oxygen content of each breath and simulating trainging at higher altitude.

What was found however in most studies was that they only people that really benifited from that "elevation" training were athletes is extraordinary condition, however, it took those athletes longer to reap the benifits because, while their body aclimated to the "elevation change", they lost some of their cardiovascular conditioning and they were unable to regain it as fast as they would have been able to at sea level.

Basically, it is the entire reason why blood doping is so effective when compared to people training at elevation... The doper gets all of the benifits of training in an oxygen rich enviroment and then they can super charge their oxygen delivery system by blood doping.

Blood doping is literally like having a fast motor and then adding nitrous oxide...
