RE: 400 yard shots at elk????
Bobby, actually I happen to agree with you on this subject, I much rather get in close on any animal and will readily admit that I don't even consider myself a skilled marksmen at least not enough of one to take a 400 yard shot with confidence on any game animal. However I don't believe that I have the right to say it isn't challenging or hunter shouldn't shot longer than I would if his/her ability allows them to do so. Ethics has nothing to do with it as that is personal and I would hope those who claim shooting longer distances are profiecient at those distances...by this I don't mean the odd one in the zone but consistency. Again this can only be determined by each individual based on their abilities. Those who do not adhere to their limitations or abilities then are crossing over the ethical line IMHO!
As for difference of opinion a few years back I believe it was in reference to iron vs scoped. It may have got into some range discussion but I far from consider myself a long range shooter. Yes, I have taken animals further than 300 yards but that is the rarity most have fallen between 0-200 this is what I consider my safe zone and obiviously the closer the better. Just like in golf I'd much rather have a wedge to the green than long iron!
