Went out today about 12:30. Wind was blowing 20-25 mph with gusts at 30. Needless to say it was hard to hear, but I struck one up about 2:00. I worked him for a few minutes and decided to leave him alone. If I killed this bird, my season would already be over in Louisiana. I don't want it to end so fast. Also there are very few birds and I need this bird to breed for future stock. Who knows, I may not have been able to get him anyway. At least I know there is another one out there. I'll probably hunt him when I get back from Texas. I leave tomorrow morning. From the reports I have heard from my friend, it sounds good.

swampbuster 03-25-2013 03:05 PM

Good luck in Texas ss hope you stomp on some heads

Bucktail_Bob 03-27-2013 10:30 AM

swampbuster 03-27-2013 05:21 PM

Looks like you got some nice birds, I'm still waiting for one to show up in front of my trail cam

superstrutter 03-29-2013 06:32 PM

Got back tonight from Texas. I hunted hard for three straight days. It was tough hunting. The birds that were there were henned up bad and did very little gobbling. I did manage to get two very good mature gobblers. The first bird weighed 22.4 lbs, had a 9" beard, and spurs that were 1 1/4" and 1 1/8". He scores 64. That bird was a stud and hard to get.The 2nd bird weighed 19 lbs., 9.5" beard, and both spurs were 1 1/8". His score is 60.5 Pictures are on the scoring thread. Story will be on the bragging board. Anybody else hunting yet?

RJPOUTDOORS 03-30-2013 12:47 AM

Things are looking up. My son and I sent out last Sunday and checked almost all the properties we hunt on . One location we saw 4 toms while a total of 4 more where seen at differnt places couple are still grouped up. Yesterday I checked out a new place and found lots of droppings in the field going back tommorw moring to listen and see what flys down if not rained out. Good Hunting.

Great job, way to keep us high on the board!

BB Outdoors 03-30-2013 12:21 PM

Went out scouting yesterday afternoon and seen 6 different gobblers strutting in the corn fields. They were gobbling like crazy. My season opens April 10th which hopefully will come quick!

RyanVT 03-31-2013 05:23 AM

Hey guys conrats on you who have gotten birds so far!!! couple real big ones. Ive got good news my birds are finally breaking out of there winter groups and spliting up. Ive got 3 nice toms on my property I can hunt. One of them looks to be a monster. Heard my first gobbles of the year yesterday morning really has me pumped for may 1st!

swampbuster 03-31-2013 04:49 PM

Congrats again ss on your Texas rios. Are you hunting anywhere else this year?

superstrutter 04-01-2013 07:18 PM

I had a trip planned to Oklahoma this weekend to hunt with a friend on his brothers property, but it fell through. We will try to go at a later date. I have another longbeard on my property that I will be hunting. I still have two Texas tags left, so I might just have to make another trip.

superstrutter 04-03-2013 05:48 PM

The weather down here is crazy. I'm sure it's just as crazy up north for some of you. Warm one day, cold and windy the next. Winter just doesn't want to let go this year. This weekend is looking great though. I will be out hunting my 2nd Louisiana longbeard. I know he's hanging around my property. With the beautiful weather being forecasted, this weekend should be the weekend to get my bird. Of course if that happens, then my home season will be over. We have a two bird limit. The rest of you should be hunting soon I suppose. Anyones season open this weekend?

superstrutter 04-05-2013 09:23 AM

Anybody alive? What's going on guys? Let's try to keep this thread alive. We hit an all time record low for a high yesterday in West Monroe, LA. Our high temp was 46. It was cooler down here yeterday than most of the country, even in parts of Alaska. This weather is rediculous. Warmer weather is on its way though. Going to run up to my property this afternoon and see if I can kill or roost the gobbler that's hanging around.

BB Outdoors 04-05-2013 10:56 AM

Wisconsin youth season is this weekend, going to take my brother out and hopefully get him his first gobbler. My season opens on the 10th and runs until the 16th. I also bought another take for May 8th-14th. Been seeing some strutters lately and had some gobbling every the morning while running more cows into the barn around 8.

superstrutter 04-05-2013 06:36 PM

I put the gobbler to bed this evening. They very rarely gobble on roost in the evenings here, but this one did. I was actually heading back to my truck when I heard him gobble. I went back up the road and gave an owl hoot. He gobbled. I know exactly where I will set up in the morning. I'm going to film this hunt. Hopefully I'll get a kill on film.

swampbuster 04-06-2013 04:22 AM

Good luck ss hope you tag out. I heard my first gobble of the year this morning!!! He just gobbled once on the ground. Didn't gobble at all on the roost.

swampbuster 04-06-2013 08:31 AM

I am leaving Tuesday afternoon to go to south central Kansas I will hunt there for a few days and then head to north west Nebraska. I can't wait to get after those turkeys!!

I got the bird this morning. It was a picture perfect hunt. I even got the whole hunt on film. He is a 2 yr. old bird that weighs 18.8 lbs., spurs are both under an inch, and had two beards, one 10" and one 3". He scores 57.625. Story will be on bragging board.

swampbuster 04-06-2013 06:20 PM

Way to go ss congrats on your second home state bird!

superstrutter 04-06-2013 07:02 PM

Thanks swamp, and good luck with your Kansas and Nebraska hunts.

swampbuster 04-06-2013 08:33 PM

SS are you going to try to put your video on you tube or anything like that?

superstrutter 04-07-2013 07:50 AM

No, I just video deer and turkey hunts for personal viewing. I like to go back and watch them.

BetterBirddogs 04-07-2013 12:17 PM

Shot a nice big Eastern this morning. He's gonna score 68.5. Inch and a quarter spurs 9.5" beard and weighs 22 lbs on the nose. Videoed the hunt. I'll have pics and video up after softball.

RyanVT 04-07-2013 12:21 PM

Way to go man!!!!!! Big bird 22lbs woohoo. Can't wait to see the pics

RyanVT 04-07-2013 12:28 PM

Winter just doesn't want to go away here either! Next weeks looking better tho. Finally been able to start scouting birds they are still grouped up alot tho. A property that I only have permission to hunt on youth weekend to bring my cousin out looks very promising. There was 10 strutting toms and a bunch of hens. Then out of the woods a couple hundred yards away came 6 jakes. One heck of a fight broke out it was awsome! My fiancé even Thought it was cool. Weird to say fiancé just got engaged yesterday!

superstrutter 04-07-2013 01:04 PM

Good going BBD. That's a great bird. Show us the pic and I'll submit your score. That will give us five birds so far. We're off to a great start.

BB Outdoors 04-07-2013 04:30 PM

congrats on the birds guys!! we're putting some serious points on the board! my season opens Wednesday. took my brother out this weekend on the youth hunt, birds were gobbling but just couldn't seal the deal

swampbuster 04-08-2013 03:59 PM

Way to go bob congrats on your bird can't wait to see pics and your video

swampbuster 04-08-2013 04:04 PM

Sorry bb didn't mean to call you bob. What state did you get your turkey in?

swampbuster 04-08-2013 05:55 PM

I was suppose to leave to tomorrow afternoon to head north to Kansa and Nebraska but bad weather may delay my plans. Wintery mix wed morning in Kansas. They are calling for blizzard type conditions in Nebraska with possible accumulation of 20in. I don't even know what to say about that. Does anybody know what turkeys do in those conditions?

superstrutter 04-08-2013 06:03 PM

BBD, let's see pics of your bird so I can submit your score.

superstrutter 04-08-2013 06:16 PM

Swamp, seems like the weather always messes up the best laid plans. I can honestly say I have never hunted turkeys in the snow. With that weather forecast, I would postpone the trip if it were me, but you may not be able to. I guess turkeys will do their thing in the snow, but those conditions may make it pretty tough.

Must have gone into extra innings........

swampbuster 04-10-2013 05:01 AM

Ss that's exactly what I'm going to do. I know they got at least sixteen inches and the ten day forecast didn't have temps getting above mid fortys. That's when I decided to go ahead and reschedule. I'm now looking at going to Kansas and Nebraska later this month

swampbuster 04-11-2013 06:01 AM

Where is everyone at? I hope y'all are all out hunting if so good luck!!

superstrutter 04-11-2013 09:13 AM

With my Louisiana tags filled I just can't stand it anymore. I have to go turkey hunting. Looks like my Oklahoma hunt isn't going to happen, so with two Texas tags left, I'm going back to hunt a Rio. I'll probably go next weekend or the next. Lets hear from you guys. Let us know what's going on. BBD, what about those pics? Teams are starting to get birds, so we need to submit as many kills as possible. I want to win this thing. Good luck guys.

swampbuster 04-11-2013 04:31 PM

What part of Texas are you hunting ss?

superstrutter 04-11-2013 05:29 PM

My first hunt was in south Tex. About 65 miles southeast of San Antonio. My next hunt will be in north Tex. north of Stephenville.

RyanVT 04-11-2013 05:46 PM
